INTERNATIONAL HERDER SOCIETY
Membership

Scholarly societies exist through and for their members. Among other activities, the International Herder Society organizes a conference on topics of interest to Herder (and more generally, eighteenth-century) scholars from different disciplines every two years to facilitate international and interdisciplinary exchange. The conference 2004 took place in Saarbrücken, the conference 2006 in Madison, the conference 2008 in Jena and the conference in 2010 at Notre Dame, Indiana; the conference 2012 took place at Schloss Beuggen (Rheinfelden/D nahe Basel), 2014 in West Lafayette, Purdue University. 2016 we'll meet at the University of Kassel.

Membership in the International Herder Society does include a number of benefits:

  • the biannual newsletter, with up-to-date information on Herder-related activities, calls for papers and information on conferences, and the latest bibliographic entries.

  • email communication among members via a member email list: announcements, projects, working groups.

  • the biennial Herder Yearbook. Each volume offers a number of interesting articles, as well as a comprehensive Herder bibliography.

The International Herder Society welcomes new members. Anyone with an interest in Herder and related areas ist encouraged to join. Annual due rates (payable at January) are 50$ (reduced for students, emeriti and independent scholars: 25$).

If you want to join the IHS, you can complete the application-form online and submit your data directly or print it out and mail or fax your application to your treasurer (as listed on the form).
